What does an ideal tiffin look like?
Tiffin often refers to a packed meal that we take to school or the office and usually eat for lunch. Since you’re likely working or studying hard, your lunch should be healthy, tasty, balanced, and filling to keep you energised for the rest of the day.
Yes, this is what an ideal tiffin should look like! It should provide a good balance of macronutrients and micronutrients, as each plays an important role in supporting our overall health and well-being.
High-protein tiffin wraps for you:
High-protein wrap; sounds good and interesting, doesn’t it? But why has “high-protein” become such a popular buzzword among health enthusiasts these days? The answer is simple: protein is one of the most essential nutrients our body needs. It plays a vital role in growth, repair, and overall health. For growing children, in particular, protein offers numerous benefits.
It supports muscle growth and development, provides sustained energy, and helps build a strong immune system, something that’s especially important with the changing weather and frequent infections.
A protein-rich tiffin also keeps you feeling full for longer, improves focus, and supports many important body functions. When paired with healthy carbohydrates, good fats, and plenty of vegetables, it becomes a wholesome, balanced meal that keeps you energised throughout the day.
Ingredients required for high-protein tiffin:
- Whole wheat tortilla or rotis- 2
- Ghee or butter
- Diced paneer
- Soya chunks
- Hung curd to marinate the filling
- Curd dip or homemade mayo
- Chilli powder
- Coriander powder
- Roasted cumin powder
- Black pepper powder
- Salt as per taste
- Chat masala
- ½ lemon
- Finely chopped tomatoes, capsicum, onion and lettuce (for dressing)
So, these are all the ingredients you’ll need to make our healthy, high-protein wraps. Now, let’s move on to the process. Trust me, it’s incredibly simple and takes just a few minutes to prepare. The result is a delicious, wholesome, and protein-rich wrap that’s perfect for school or office tiffins. So, without any further delay, let’s get started!
How to prepare high-protein tiffin wraps?
- First of all, take the soy chunks and soak them in warm water for about 15–20 minutes until they become soft and spongy. You can do this beforehand to reduce your morning prep time.
- Once the soy chunks are properly soaked, drain the excess water and roughly chop them using a chopper.
- Take a mixing bowl and add the chopped soy chunks along with the small diced paneer. Now it’s time for the marination.
- Add hung curd, salt, black pepper, coriander powder, and chilli powder. Mix everything well, cover the bowl, and let it marinate for another 15–20 minutes.
- Now, many of you might be wondering, “How is this a quick recipe? The soaking and marination alone take around 30–40 minutes!”
- That’s a fair question. Soaking the soy chunks and marinating the filling help soften the soy and allow the flavours to blend beautifully, making the wrap much more delicious.
- To save time on busy mornings, you can soak the soy chunks and marinate the mixture the night before. This way, all you need to do in the morning is cook the filling and assemble the wraps, making the entire process quick and hassle-free.
- Now, take a kadaai or wok, add some butter or ghee, and heat it on a low flame. Add the marinated filling and mix it well using a spatula.
- At this stage, you only need to add turmeric powder. No additional spices are required, as all the flavours have already been infused during the marination process.
- Keep the flame on low and cook the mixture gently until the filling is slightly cooked and the rawness of the ingredients disappears.
- Continue cooking until it becomes thick and comes together nicely. Once done, turn off the flame and add freshly chopped coriander leaves, lemon juice, and chaat masala. Give everything a good mix.
- Your delicious, protein-rich, and flavourful filling is now ready!
- Now, if you have rotis or phulkas, you can use them as the wrap. You can also use whole wheat tortillas as an alternative.
- Take the roti/tortilla and apply a thin layer of butter over it. Place a spoonful of the prepared filling in the centre, or spread it evenly across the wrap for a better bite.
- Add some homemade mayonnaise or curd dip on top. Then, layer it with our chopped tomato, onion, and capsicum dressing.
- And that’s it; your wrap is ready! Roll it tightly, wrap it neatly using butter paper or wrapping paper, and it’s all set to go straight into your lunch box.
- A delicious, wholesome, and protein-packed tiffin is ready to enjoy!
Things to remember:
- You can pair this wrap with boiled eggs, sprout salad, seasonal fruits, or any side dish of your choice.
- So, how did you like this yummilicious wrap? It is a perfect combination of taste and nutrition, with each ingredient adding its own value.
- The quantity of soy chunks and paneer can be adjusted according to your preference and taste. If you are lactose intolerant, you can also replace paneer with tofu and use vegan curd as an alternative.
As you saw, if the first two steps of soaking and marination are done the night before and stored in the fridge, the preparation becomes super easy the next morning. And that too, while keeping it healthy! What could be better than that?
